Polyjuice Potion + free label

19 August 2018 by Professor K.T. Crownhill

Harry Potter cookbook

This is the most complicated potion I’ve ever seen,” said Hermione as they scanned the recipe.
Chamber of Secrets – Chapter 10

Ever wished to look like someone else? Well, the Polyjuice potion gives you that opportunity.

It allows a wizard to take the physical appearance of another person. It lasts from 10 minutes up to 12 hours, depending on the experience and skill of the brewer.

This elixir played a crucial role for Harry and his friends in their second and fourth years at Hogwarts.

Unfortunately in the Harry Potter universe it takes a month to brew and is made from some extremely bizarre ingredients. Lacewing flies (stewed for 3 weeks), leeches, powdered bicorn horn…shall I list them all?

Also, the key ingredient is a tiny bit of someone you would like to turn into, such as hair or nail clippings – gross, right?

Let’s ignore it all and make our own, non-repulsive (but delicious!) version.

Harry Potter's Polyjuice potion recipe

Course Potions
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings 6 potions

Ingredients

  • 1/4 gallon lime sherbet / sorbet 1 litre; lemon is good too!
  • 4 cups Sprite 1 litre; 34 fl oz
  • 2-3 drops green food colouring shade of green up to you: neon, turquoise...

Instructions

  1. Move the sherbet to a punch bowl with a spoon.

  2. Carefully pour Sprite into the bowl - don’t freak out: it will foam and bubble!

  3. Add the food colouring, slowly stirring and observe how the colour changes. Stop when it’s green enough.

  4. Serve in the punch bowl or pour into individual bottles/vials.

Recipe Notes

The foam tends to dissolve over time. I left it in the fridge overnight and the next day it was gone, as you can see on the photos. if you would like to have it foamed at the party, just make it right before it starts.
