It Is Impossible To Manufacture Or Imitate Love.”
Prof. Slughorn explaining Amortentia in Half-Blood Prince
Even though Amortentia is perceived as a love potion, it in fact isn’t one. It causes obsession and a powerful infatuation – but it cannot make someone love us.
What’s more, it wears off after a while and the person influenced by it regains their free will.
The Amortentia potion is highly dangerous and extremely powerful. The person under its influence is so blinded by its power, they will do anything for the one who administered it.
The potion has a different scent for each Wizard. If you have a sniff, its aroma would remind you of what’s most attractive to you. For instance, Harry smelled treacle tart, a woody aroma of a broomstick handle and “something flowery” – he figured out later that it was the scent of Ginny Weasley.
With all this knowledge you’ve just gained, are you ready to give it a go and brew your own Amortentia? Who knows, maybe you’ll win someone’s heart for real 🙂
